Sad sad news today hearing about the passing of John Shumate!
Played for Dad @NDmbb @DiggerPhelps ☘️🏀 but became family to all of us even all these decades later!
Grateful we had a reunion in 2022🙏
Gone too soon but will forever be in our hearts💚 #Shu #RIP #family

Sad day knowing that John Shumate died. He was a great player at Notre Dame and a big factor in the 1/19/1974 win over UCLA ending their 88 game win streak. Off the court Shu was always humble and cared deeply for others. I will miss him. RIP old friend.

Bill Waltons passing is a sad tragedy. One of the great ones in UCLA basketball history. We were great friends over the years. It won’t be the same without him. May he rest in peace.
