I think about that often. Public discourse is at such a low-IQ level these days. We don't debate issues or ideas in any kind of intellectual way because mass media can't handle it. Everything is framed by race, religion, income, or style. I think we had a smarter society decades ago.
While I agree with you, I do also believe that what is missing in today's world is the emotional and intellectual flexibility, spontaneity, and freedom that comes from not feeling trapped by "choices" etc. Freedom is not being profiled over a lifetime. Freedom is being able to adapt and change.
