Residency vs citizenship 101
Residency:
✅ Live full-time in the country
✅ Access healthcare, open a local bank account, etc
✅ Must be renewed
Citizenship:
✅ Apply for a passport
✅ Vote & run for office
✅ No need to renew
Only citizenship gives you full EU rights. 👉🇪🇺
7 steps to EU citizenship: 🇪🇺
(if you’ve got 💰 to invest)
1. Choose target country
2. Pick investment route (e.g. property)
3. Make investment
4. Apply for investor visa
5. Take language classes
6. Keep renewing residency until eligible for citizenship
7. Submit application
@acgrayling Yes, but there are some accessible residency visas available if you have passive / remote income.
E.g. the Portugal D7 visa. Min threshold of €705 per month makes it easy for many, no need to be super wealthy.
5 years later - apply for citizenship! 🇪🇺 #RejoinEU
@advkalyan1 Hi there, no, it must be a Portuguese bank account for the D7 application. You can do it in person in Portugal, or via an online service like https://t.co/7Ihxcpl5YE
Simon Calder being absolutely, perfectly clear about the causes of the delays at Dover. Not to assign blame, but to counter the pitiful excuses from the government and the pro-Brexit gang with some plainly spoken facts. Imagine that: FACTS!
@nitawhite1 @Ladycorvia@MerielMyers I've known almost 50° C in July in Doha, Qatar. And believe me, it's absolutely not fun. You just don't go outside during daytime, unless it's to hurry from your air-conditioned car to an air-conditioned building.
Why is an EU passport so great?
It gives you rights to live, work, do business, study, & retire FREELY across 30 safe & prosperous countries.
But how to get one?

For anyone wanting some advice on migrating to Europe, I thoroughly recommend @DigitalEmigre. I ended my call with Samantha over the moon at a possible option - she made everything so clear for me.
@margarance @ozymandias57@Wulf_Helm You could still retire in Portugal with income from a UK state pension. The equivalent of Portuguese minimum wage per month (€705) is all that's needed. (PS, we still hate Brexit).
Brexit has made everything worse. If there was going to be a pandemic, a war, an asset-stripping incompetent no-hope government, who needed to quadruple down with Brexit?
