And end scene. Thanks for reading this; I felt the need to write about Dad today. I take things too literally sometimes but it felt really nice to talk to you today. Bright blessings! Your turn, if you're so inclined. #BellLetsTalk
Joyce Carol Oates said "When you're 50 you start thinking about things you haven't thought about before. I used to think getting old was about vanity-but actually it's about losing people you love."
I feel that now, the loss stacking up in my life. #BellLetsTalk
Things started going bad for him. His wife developed dementia and he was the sole care-provider. The farm that had been in our family for over 100 years failed. His physical health deteriorated. He resisted any help; I wish I had tried harder. #BellLetsTalk
I remember when I moved to Winnipeg to go to university and how he was so wrecked that I was leaving home. His advice to me was to be careful crossing the street, which was all he could bring himself to say. #BellLetsTalk
Dad was a huge sports fan and I was the child that liked sports. He spent many happy hours cheering high school volleyball and curling teams. I could always count on him. We were both Jet's fan but he liked the Cardinals and I the Blue Jays. #BellLetsTalk
I grew up in rural Manitoba, and going to "the city" (Winnipeg) was a big deal. On these trips, Dad made sure we had some fun while Mom was focussed on getting the necessities for the household. He took us to see the first Star Wars movie and we were blown away. #BellLetsTalk
When I think of my dad now, some of the happy memories are coming back. I thought that the grieving process would be harder after he passed but now I realize that I have been going through the steps for a long time #BellLetsTalk .
#BellLetsTalk Dad's last years were marked by sadness and anxiety. He withdrew from the things that had given him joy all his life. He resisted treatment.
