If I'm honest this has been a hard season for me lately. I've been struggling with trusting God's timing. I was reminded when reading Psalm 37 today that I am to be still before Yahweh and wait patiently. That Yahweh is good to those who wait for him and seek him, and it is good to wait quietly for God’s salvation (Lam. 3:25–26). This quiet waiting involves hoping in God’s word while the soul waits more intensely than watchmen awaiting morning (Psalm 130:5–6).
I was reminded that prior to preaching to thousands, for a season Peter went back to fishing after thinking he failed Jesus. That Paul sat in prison cells, Lazarus lay in a tomb, Jonah prayed in the belly of a fish, Hannah wept on the steps of the tabernacle, Joseph was locked in the captivity, and Moses stood in the fields of Median herding sheep. All before God made moves in his timing.
Times of waiting, while hard, remind us of the confidence we should have in God’s timing and character. When direction seems slow in coming, we're called to wait for it, assured it will come when the time is ready (Hab. 2:3). Yahweh himself waits to be gracious and show mercy, and those who wait for him are blessed, for he is a God of justice (Isa. 30:18). Rather than taking matters into their own hands, like I often am tempted to do, we are instructed not to repay evil but to wait for the Lord, who will deliver us (Prov 20:22).
Hoping for what is unseen involves waiting with patience (Romans 8:25), and through the Spirit and faith, believers eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness (Galatians 5:5). Waiting involves expectancy and hope regarding events and contingencies still in the future, it's the outworking of a spiritual posture directed at trusting God’s promises and timing rather than our own understanding.
Knowing all of this, writing here on X doesn't make my season of needing to wait any easier, but the consistent, inspired, inerrant testimony of scripture nonetheless gives me something solid to trust in. I am fickle, impatient, and finite. God is trustworthy, forbearing, and infinite. And his timing is right even if I don't know how or when things will happen.
Almighty God, on this day, through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, you revealed the way of eternal life to every race and nation: Pour out this gift anew, that by the preaching of the Gospel your salvation may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. -Day of Pentecost, Book of Common Prayer
Lately I've been doing yard work and listening to songs about the second coming. (Good strategy for sanity.)
A hopeful thought keeps emerging: the crazy tension we feel increasing around us is bringing us closer to that Day. It's not random. It's part of the process. Our Lord even spoke of "birth pains" (Matthew 24:8).
Of course we don't know the timing. It could be distant or near, I have no idea. But the pain in the meantime is temporary and purposeful. Every day we are nearer to seeing Jesus in the clouds. Happy thought.
Wonderful hope to return to each day:
No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

It is another great day to tune out the noise, make our heart happy in Christ, meet needs around us, and remember that the struggle of this life is not meaningless. God bless you all.
A great articulation by @gavinortlund of the issue here with @jamestalarico’s recent statements.
It should be obvious that his statements about the Bible never talking about abortion and gay marriage are foolish. Alongside that though, what really stood out to me was James then saying that “how we’re going to be saved” is by essentially a description of moralistic pragmatism. Not only is that *not* how you’re going to be saved, it’s literally the opposite of how that happens.

If someone is guilty of a heinous violent crime and is able to plead insanity, they should go to an asylum, not be released to murder or rape innocent people
How Tony Hawk changed my mind about the Epstein Files.
After the latest release people pointed out that Tony Hawk had been accused in the files of having a wedding on Epstein Island. This led to headlines claiming that “TONY HAWK HAS BEEN NAMED IN THE EPSTEIN FILES” leading some people to believe he was somehow involved in crimes. He went on to set the record straight (something he shouldn’t have even had to do) and provided details about the dates and locations of the weddings he has had and that he had no involvement with Epstein ever. The accusation was easily debunked. What if the accusation was something that he didn’t have photos and witnesses to disprove?
I want everyone involved in child sex crimes prosecuted. Most people want a sensational story to back their narrative that all celebrities are baby eating satanists. For the sake of real victims, it is important to use discernment and go off of real evidence rather than take every silly story as the truth.
I also think peoples skepticism towards women who were adults when they got involved with Epstein who are now presenting themselves as child sex trafficking victims is valid. I want ALL of the people involved in crimes against children to be prosecuted. That includes adult women who recruited victims.
Lastly, aside from the wild goose chase nature of the millions of documents…there is so much fake crap all over the internet that many people today cannot differentiate from actual documents and don’t seem to understand the concept of fact checking.
So let’s seek actual truth and not go full blown Satanic panic. We know from history that only hurts innocent people.
It’s not that I don’t think you can criticize Trump as a Christian leader. It’s just that I find your criticism suspect if the only time you pipe up about politics is when Trump or Republicans have done something you don’t like. Abortion and the genital mutilation of kids aren’t enough to generate your public outrage, but Trump’s tweets are. The only time we can count on your voice is when liberals are angry, but never to call out the injustice of vaccine mandates, pregnancy centers being firebombed, or the Biden admin taking school lunches away from schools who wouldn’t go along with the trans madness. That’s just gonna make it tough for me to take your outcry seriously
If you ever catch yourself wondering whether or not your stay-at-home-mom wife has incredible value, just wait for her to get sick and watch your house turn into a nuclear wasteland within 24 hours. You wouldn’t make it without her.
I’m watching all types of individuals and influencers speak out against ICE who haven’t had anything to say about politics or culture since 2020. Many of these are people who identify as Christians, and even conservatives.
And I just want to know: why do you only speak out against perceived injustices when Trump is in office? Why is your public outrage exclusively dictated by Democrats?
I have a long list of injustices that have occurred when Republicans were not in charge on which I would’ve loved your voices to weigh in: the slaughter of babies in the womb, the attacks on pregnancy centers after Roe was overturned, the brutalizing of gender-confused children, the soft-on-crime policies that have killed innocent people like Iryna Zarutzka, the preventable murder of Americans like Laken Riley, or the poor migrant children abandoned in the desert by coyotes, thanks to liberal border policy.
You considered all of these things too “divisive” or “political” and chose to say nothing.
Many of you were silent when Charlie was murdered, or even added “nuance” to the aftermath by calling him racist or refuting his martyrdom.
If you’ve been consistent on all of these, great. But if you find that you’ve only tuned in and spoken out when Trump is in office and the liberal media is driving the narrative, you should ask yourself if you really care about justice for the vulnerable, or if you’re only willing to speak up when it’s popular to do so.
I mean, the "mom" - who had apparently lost custody of 2/3 of her kids due to neglect or abuse - got shot because she was illegally impeding an active arrest, tried to flee the scene, and drove her SUV at a federal agent as part of that. The agent briefly went to the hospital with internal bleeding.
The "nurse" got shot because he was "directing traffic" around an active ICE situation, moved over to illegally interfere with it, and grabbed and scuffled with agents - all while armed and with two spare magazines on him.
Both of these people were apparently part of a large, illicit underground network that is apparently doing things like illegally recording license plates and addresses and connected with ICE - and flat out dispatching raiders to screw with government arrests.
You can view these two shoots as good or not, but the state is not killing people for being "too good, too noble." These were VERY predictable, avoidable situations of violence.
Suicide rates, depression, domestic abuse, pornography consumption, and all sorts of other negative things would go through the roof if this happened. We were
