Reporter Lynn Jones on her viral interaction with #Jaguars HC Liam Coen:
“He was totally immersed in his feelings. He had tears, he bit his lip. And the issue is the question… My question was, ‘Keep your head up, young man.’”
She then defends herself:
Yesterday, Wesley stood with me at midfield as an honorary captain. At the beginning of the year, I didn’t know if we’d even get here.
When they said leukemia, everything else went silent. The game, the stats, none of it mattered anymore. The only thing I cared about was my son.
Watching Wesley fight changed me as a father. Kait, Julian, Vanessa, and I leaned on each other harder than we ever have. And as a captain, I learned what real leadership looks like. It’s about how you show up for your community, how you use your voice when it matters most, and how you turn your pain into purpose for others.
Wesley’s in full remission now. But so many families are still in their fight. That’s why Four One For All exists. Every Jaguars sack this season means $410 going to the organizations that help families like ours. Because every family deserves the same support that got us through.
To the parents, siblings, and caregivers currently sitting in treatment rooms: you’re not alone.
To the kids still fighting: keep pushing. Wesley did it. You can too.
