Let me clarify something about drone sightings and attacks since so much confusion is going on :

Drone targets - a drone takes off from Pakistan to hit a specific target, depending on its range and fight time. Let’s say it’s Jammu airport. If it lands there, it’s a hit. If it’s shot down, it’s a miss. But when it’s shot down, you cannot really say what its intended target was. All you should say, and believe when someone says - it was shot down in Jammu.
If it is recovered in good state, the tech teams are able to recover data which might give an indication of where it was headed.

Drone sightings - it simple means a drone had been sighted. It DOES NOT mean it had landed, or attacked, or caused damage. More often than not, it’s shot down, given our strong air defence capabilities as displayed during past few days. So it’s just sighting. There is no need to panic.

Drone damage - only the drones that carry explosives can cause damage. It can be fatal if it lands and blasts near you. It can take out part of a regular brick and mortar wall. So when the drone warnings come, better to stay inside. And I’m talking of small drones here that come in swarms.

Surveillance drones - Not all drones are coming to explode. Lot of them are meant to find gaps in our air defence or shoot live coverage. So again, don’t panic. Armed forces will shoot them down like they do with rest of the drones.

Now why do we get conflicting reports :

The most important thing you should remember is that the ONLY authentic source is government. Rest everyone is on - fastest finger and ‘my source told me’ mode. So whenever you hear sirens, or her advisory from local administration, take it seriously. Rest, use your discretion.

Tons of social media handles are surviving and growing on sensationalism. War has been declared a few times by them ! So see for yourself and take the call.

Government and Army is not there to sensationalise events for you and looking for followers or impressions. They’ll inform what is right and keep everyone calm.

Now coming to today’s recent drone sighting.

Maybe there were a few drones over Jammu. The social media handles want you to believe it because of obvious reasons and turn it into another war scenario so you get excited and keep following their updates.

The army saw a few, shot them down, nothing more happened and it’s back to normal. So there is no need to cause panic. The local administration wouldn’t issues required warnings. We don’t have to get huffy puffy about it.

And even if there was some activity, commercial flights are immediately canceled to mitigate any risk. Flights get canceled in fog too, right. Again a precaution. Does that mean that the fog is going to engulf the city and its end of times ? So, a few drones are a few drones, that’s it.

Finally, the best thing we can do at such times is not panic and create chaos. That’s what the enemy wants. Stay calm and have faith in your armed forces. Let’s not give into propaganda because information warfare is a weapon of warfare now. Let’s not succumb to it.

Stay safe, be aware and don’t believe everything you hear on social media.

Beyond the breaking news and technical details I am focused on the human stories. This, Jammu is home for me and not someplace distant.

Today when locals reported drones and sounds of firing in Samba yet again, a Dogra Mother from Jammu whatsapped me saying she is anxious because her college going daughter is travelling alone on Vande Bharat from Delhi to Jammu. This concerned Mother had called her daughter back home to Jammu, wanting the family to be together under these tense circumstances.

While this young girl was on Vande Bharat there was precautionary blackouts and the train kept stopping according to protocol and to keep everyone safe. Imagine the mother’s worry. The young Dogra girl however was unfazed and telling her mother not to.

I share this story because the Nation and the World must know that when (and not if) India escalates against the terror state Pakistan which is targeting civilians, homes, schools, temples, madarsas, gurudwaras children and women in Jammu region, it will be justified. It will not only be justified, it will be a favour to the world.
