Dear UC Lecturers, if no one has told you today: Your labor—both visible and invisible—is transformative, uplifting, and invaluable. ♥️ #WeTeachUC@UCAFT
As a Muslim woman my critiques are often met with the racist rejoinder, “You’re lucky you live in America where you are allowed to speak.” Now watch a major university silence a Muslim valedictorian in a hijab with no sense of irony.

Representation matters. So many of us survived these institutions because of that one Chicana/o/e Latina/o/e teacher or professor who saw us, believed in us, and guided the way.
Yes, it’s not guaranteed that People of Color in positions of power are going to use that power to serve POC and other marginalized communities, but don’t use this argument to keep hiring & elevating white people and never giving POC a chance.

Excited to share this publication and so grateful to the Ethnic Studies teachers & students who've made this work possible. Thank you for leading the way & for showing us the possibilities and power of teaching and learning to resist and disrupt racism.
Happy Hispanic/Latinx Heritage month to my Chicanx/Latinx professors who spoke Spanish in class. It was something so simple but so meaningful. It made the space ours. It felt like home.
Happy Hispanic/Latinx Heritage month to Teacher Education Departments that are actively committed to recruiting and retaining Chicanx/Latinx faculty… (do such departments exist?)
Happy “Hispanic”/Latinx Heritage month to all the Chicanx/Latinx professors who centered our knowledges, histories, languages and voices. I thought I knew nothing & had nothing of value to say until I stepped into your class.
Happy “Hispanic” heritage month to all the mamás y papás who sacrificed so we could go to college, take Ethnic studies, and feel empowered to never call ourselves Hispanic.
It's hot across Cali but folks of Color disproportionately experience the negative impacts of extreme heat thanks to legacies of racist decision making. Such a relevant read right now.
