@LakuzaVR@VRChat Yooooo! You finished after all that work, congratulations!!🎉
It looks awesome. I love the trailer graphics & editing, the art style of the world coming together through all your modeling and texturing, and most of all the original story/acting and enemy intros/animations!!
I'm quitting VRChat world development.
I am so thankful for everyone who ever reached out to tell me they enjoyed my work, or supported with money from their own pockets.
I am so grateful for those who shared my passion for creation and talked shop while we shared our ideas and plans for the future of VR.
I look back fondly on all the times I was able to join someone's stream and watch my own game on the big-screen. Whether I was helping with a tour or watching along with chat.
I'm so proud of the things that I was able to create; alone and with friends.
I hope you can understand, but the platform just doesn't work for me. I've grown to a point where I would like to make my first standalone game and release it on Steam. I'm scared to likely toss away any fans I've gained, but they say the best things in life are just behind the curtain of fear.
If you were to ask me why, its an ever growing list of reasons.
After nearing a half decade creating worlds on the platform I just can't watch my past work be broken anymore.
I can't wait any longer for necessary features which would allow us to compete with others in the professional VR industry.
The Creator Economy. I was very optimistic for it. It does not work for the content I want to build at all. I really needed it to work for me, and its one single monthly payment option that if not kept up on costs the user the digital goods they should own. In addition to weighted terms and a huge cut, it just ain't it.
There was a time when I would shout praises of what could be done in VRC to anyone that would listen. I felt the platform held so much potential, and was so optimistic. Some of you have heard all my thoughts of what could be done in the future (in great detail 😂). And at some point I forgot... those were just my thoughts, VRC never laid out a plan for where they would go. I had such grand goals for the Metaverse, and saw it as the only possible next level of game development. Even beyond that, there was the potential to inhabit the same virtual representation of yourself and go to performances, socialize, play games, and pretty much any leisure I can think of in one platform. It was the evolution of Xbox or Mii avatars, Steam or Discord profile pics on crack. Many in the games industry have tried to give players a representation as they meet other gamers. None have felt more than a silly little cosmetic on your screen. But VRC just accidently blew all of that out of the water. And they don't get it. They just don't understand, they made THE representation much larger legendary game companies have been chasing for decades. I just wanted to contribute some fun immersive games to that. But entertainment and leisure evolves fast. It is incredibly competitive. And I cannot envision the tools in VRC competing with what is possible standalone. There is such obvious improvements for me to make to try and keep other VR games on their toes and compete together forward, but I'm just slammed into a ceiling in VRC. I cannot wait on VRC time anymore. Sink or swim, I need to dive in. I just feel like I'm falling so behind stuck here and I can't stand it. I don't know what they're doing, they never talk to us unless we kick and scream and even then we are treated like misbehaving kids instead of professional game developer colleagues. They don't look at our work and ask "what tools do you need to grow, what you are trying to build?", and then follow that up with fast, pace matching development. The Metaverse cannot be built by the unpaid masses enslaved by passion in a profit safe box. I just can't stand the model anymore. And what Meta did, what Fortnite is trying to get in on, with Roblux scamming the next generation of developers...its just too much man.
Normally I'd erase half of that last part but screw it, I've put in half a decade and I'm just done. Grant me one emotional bitching 😂
