But if V14.3.4 can do this, why wouldn’t it inch up as someone’s slowly approaching from the rear? Or at least alert the driver in some way.

It would. Even if it didn’t show the blue bar underneath but showed Self-Driving. Nice to know when FSD is being used by other drivers.
