New Balance slipped a Steve Jobs reference into its 992 product photos, recreating his iconic pose from the original iPad presentation in 2010.
Such a cool little tribute.
New Balance's product page for the grey 992 is a shot-for-shot recreation of Steve Jobs introducing the iPad in 2010. Same black leather chair, same cuffed jeans, same black socks. And the part that makes it perfect is that Jobs composed the original frame himself.
Bethany Bongiorno, who ran software engineering for the iPad, said Jobs personally picked out the Le Corbusier chair for that event. It's an LC3 Grand Confort, a 1928 design that sits in MoMA's permanent collection. He wanted the demo to look like someone reading in their living room, so he staged one, down to the furniture.
The shoes weren't an accident either. New Balance chairman Jim Davis has said the 992 traces back to a letter from Jobs asking for something sportier than his beloved 991s, sketch included. NB released it in 2006 for the company's 100th anniversary, and Jobs wore it until he died.
Here's what that endorsement cost New Balance. Nothing. In 1984, Nike paid Michael Jordan $2.5 million over five years to wear its shoes. Jobs paid retail, then put the 992 on stage at the most photographed keynotes on earth for five straight years.
When NB finally retroed the shoe in 2020, it sold out with barely any marketing push. The Jobs association did all the work.
So look at what's actually on that product page. A sneaker the customer helped design, inside a frame the customer art-directed. Jobs shot New Balance's best ad 16 years ago, free of charge. They finally published it.
Even a $2 billion USD worth Antilia, or any of the mansions on Billionaires Row on Cumballa Hill in Mumbai, can’t offer what an average foreigner gets to experience every single day.
Any one who is privileged therefore owes it to the world to work on the most obnoxiously hard problems, not just build a life for themselves, but uplift people by building great companies and employing as many people as they can.
The privileged must risk it all, over and over again, until they are tortured to greatness.
This is my version of socialism, re- distribute risk. The rich have a moral imperative to embrace more risk.
Too late now, Chelsea could’ve walked with 3 points, Areenal would’ve went to Sunderland and Brighton Away with a Konsa Hincapie pairing, the whole trajectory of the league would have been different but this league simply knows they aren’t good enough without a push.
The epigenetics going to work in these kids, the genes getting switched on for strength and muscle that would’ve stayed dormant
Imagine doing this for generations, altering your family’s DNA for the better with each successive generation and compounding over time
Incredible to think about
Good for the parents
Chelsea have 22 matches before the end of the January transfer window.

Never sit when you can lie down.
Never stay awake when you can sleep.
Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.
Prime Minister so based that he had to author a hit piece against himself to prevent his veneration and approval by the masses because it establishes a bad precedent of hero worshipping of politicians.
Chacha Nehru was essentially a Gigachad who unlocked new levels of "Based" with his each and every move 🗿🗿🗿
