An ageing dam sits upstream of densely populated areas of Kerala.

Kerala has repeatedly proposed a new Mullaperiyar dam, with Kerala willing to bear the construction cost while ensuring Tamil Nadu’s water needs are protected. Yet Tamil Nadu continues to oppose replacing the existing structure.

This is not about Kerala vs Tamil Nadu. It is about human lives and disaster preparedness.

@TVKVijayHQ if you are going to speak for Tamil Nadu, please remember that political positions cannot come at the cost of the safety of millions living in Kerala.

Water rights can be protected. Lives cannot be replaced.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still haven’t given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldn’t move forward. Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede.
