Somewhere south in August, Crete slows all the way down.
• Agiofarago Gorge, walk through limestone walls until they open onto the Libyan Sea and a pebble beach that keeps its silence.
• Agios Pavlos, climb sand dunes that have no business being this dramatic, swim as the light drops, then let the stars finish the day for you.
• Xerokampos, the cliffs at Argilos Beach come with their own therapeutic clay. Nature's spa, no appointment needed.
• Preveli, arrive at dawn, swim upstream through a palm forest into water so cold and so green it doesn't feel real.
• Kapetaniana, a mountain village in the Asterousia range where dinner is slow-cooked and nobody's in a hurry.
Same island. Completely different August.

A throwback to this short interview film for Andreas Kalantzis, a local painter on the island of Patmos! 🎨
We keep telling people Patmos is the island to slow down on.
For 9 nights in July, it keeps being quiet but in a different way. Open-air cinemas go up by the sea. Screens flicker against whitewashed walls, on the island said to be where the Book of Revelation was written.
The Aegean Film Festival has been doing this since 2010, bringing world cinema to one of the quietest corners of the Dodecanese.
🎞 Go for the films. Stay for everything else!

Of all the Greek islands to visit in September, this one is worth the trip, especially this spot, where you can clink glasses over unique local wine labels. 🍷
Anyone booked for September?

The work-from-anywhere dream usually skips the part where you actually stop! Summer in the Peloponnese is built for the stopping. You could call it remote work. We'd just call it staying a while. 💛

Lefkada has beaches that feel like God made each one unique. 💙
But do you know what makes this island feel even better?
Seeing every single one of them from a boat. Imagine floating on these heavenly turquoise waters, then making a splash off the deck the moment it feels right. 👌

This is the relaxing side of Mykonos most people walk past in July. 💙
Everyone knows the loud side. But the best beaches in Mykonos are the calm ones and there are more than you'd think.
🌞The trick: go before 9am in the morning or after 5 in the afternoon. Same Mykonos beaches, half the people, none of the midday heat.
Kythira Greece sits on its own, about halfway between the Peloponnese and Crete and for an island this good it stays surprisingly quiet. 🌞

There's always one Greek paniyiri you spend the whole winter waiting for. 😊
Ours live rent-free in our heads till summer. the music, the food that keeps coming, the dancing that stops whenever it decides to stop. Which one's yours? It has a name and a place!

Did you know there's a slow little ferry out of Amorgos that quietly does the whole job for you. 🌞
It loops the Small Cyclades, the islands sitting just east of Naxos. Koufonisia, Schinoussa, Iraklia, Donousa and Amorgos right at the end of the line.
You don't drop Paros for this. You just don't stop at Naxos. 😉

This isn't an anti-summer post for Rhodes. It's a there's-more-than-summer post. 👌🏼
Rhodes in summer is the obvious choice, but the island beyond the famous season is something you always knew existed; you just never picked that time of year.
Rhodes beyond summer, in 60 seconds.
Enjoy!

We've been telling you for ages, summer here comes with a dancing mood attached. 🌙

Paxos is where they filmed Maestro. Three seasons of it. People watched, fell for the place and never clocked that the Ionian had a quieter, greener, more grown-up side sitting right under Corfu. 💛

Meet the Parthenon's older sister! 🏛
She's 50 years older. Same family. Doric and proud.
But she sits on a pine-covered hill on Aegina, one of the closest islands to Athens, 40 minutes by fast ferry from Piraeus.

🎧 Episode 06 of Sounds of Kavala and Thassos is out, a new podcast series by Discover Greece!
Three people. One city they all chose on purpose. Kavala isn't a place you pass through anymore, it's a place people are quietly deciding to build something in.
A silk gallery where contemporary design meets Greek folklore, run by someone who saw room here that bigger cities couldn't offer. A ceramics studio where the work isn't the bowl, it's the calm of the hands learning clay. And the Philippi Festival, the second oldest festival in Greece after Epidaurus, running every summer since 1957, now with a director rethinking what a 60-year-old institution can be.
None of this happened in Athens or Thessaloniki. It happened in a small northeastern city most people only know as the ferry port to Thassos.
Listen before your next trip north. It changes how you see a city you might have only driven through.
