We are looking forward to keeping the conversation going! @IASS_Potsdam @DiscussCEC
CO2 already in the atmosphere might well exceed the 1.5°C budget.
And barring a human-extinguishing global catastrophe there's no instantaneous 100% decarbonization.
So, yes, we do need to talk about rising climate risk including the implications of "overshoot".

How does the #IPCC WGIII report address solar radiation modification and its #governance? @UTokyoIFI’s Masahiro Sugiyama joined us for this #C2GLearn. https://t.co/b4708kk3Jn

“These are potentially beneficial but also potentially harmful technologies, so we need to be very careful and err on the side of being precautionary,” says @ICCCAD’s @SaleemulHuq in this session for the 2nd Gobeshona Global Conference: https://t.co/spCkhkrCgx
Today I join the amazing team @ciel_tweets as Deputy Director, Climate & Energy. Thrilled to work with amazing colleagues to address the root causes of climate chaos, fight false solutions & support a just HR-centered transition to a fossil-free world https://t.co/cyHplmpfSD
Should the world consider solar radiation modification in light of the latest @IPCC_CH findings? IPCC’s Thelma Krug joins us for this #C2GTalk: https://t.co/s9MLZv09gG
The carbon removal market does not exist.
Yet.
Currently, buying durable removals works the same way as supporting creators on platforms like Kickstarter or Indiegogo.

@FHBBiermann explaining why solar geoengineer is both dangerous and unnecessary @SolarGeoeng at the Planet und Gesellschaft meeting. Looking forward to joining him in Stockholm for an event on the political impacts of the SDGs https://t.co/Lpie9jqH55 @ESG_SDG@ESG_Project
The text adopted by @EP_Environment for the ESR Regulation adds some new language on carbon dioxide removal:
- a call for clarity on technical solutions "to enhance such removals"
- strong statements on priority of emission reduction

Hard vs. soft CDR pathways: New ways of thinking about Net-Zero systems, spaces, and societies - interesting stuff from Sean Low @sctx109 @BenjaminSovaco1

CDR = critical tool to achieving net zero. It will be awhile before we begin to tackle legacy emissions. Today’s investments will be required for getting to the gigaton-scale needed to counterbalance the truly hard to decarbonize sectors. https://t.co/G1KXo3rav0
There have been several new initiatives aiming to advance solar geoengineering (SG) in climate policy. It would not be a stretch to say that SG advocates (yes, advocates) might be winning the day. Before debate gets too far, let’s be clear about *why* that's the case. THREAD 1/11
“Some CDR will be unavoidable to counterbalance hard-to-abate residual emissions,” says @AITAsia’s @joyashree9 in this #C2GLearn which explores how #CO2 removal is addressed in the @IPCC_CH CAR6 WGIII report.

Out now: "Carbon Dioxide Removal: Climbing up the EU Climate Policy Agenda" together with @Oliver_Geden. In this new SWP Working Paper, we trace the rapid career for CDR in EU climate policymaking. Three key insights ⬇️ https://t.co/8Y7l4X21zh
I excited to announce the formation of the Climate Overshoot Commission, and honored to serve as its executive secretary.

Climate #geoengineering must be regulated. Indeed. Interesting dynamics here wrt the definitions and categories evoked by ‘overshoot’ https://t.co/37jHMjKJS5
The goal of net zero emissions has diffused rapidly across almost all political levels.
@FelixSchenuit & @Oliver_Geden explain why a better understanding of how the EU addresses CDR politically is required 👇👇👇

I'm excited to start working with @FECMgov - so many great people thinking seriously about equity in rapid decarbonization, and about how we can make carbon removal just & sustainable.
Also, I'm glad that @UBCAS is supportive of its faculty spending time in public service! 💚
The German government ist getting serious about residual emissions and CCS. In its new draft climate action program, it stresses the need to further develop CC(U)S, also in the context of carbon dioxide removal.
