When a terrified family in Chester le Street rang 999 because their two year old little girl was choking, the nearest ambulance crew was still some distance away. Two @DurhamPolice officers, PC Ellie Scott and PC Helen Brown, were closer. They got there first… and thank God they did.
They arrived to find the child unresponsive. Her mother was distraught. The rest of the family were stood helplessly watching their worst nightmare unfold.
PC Scott and PC Brown did not freeze. They did not panic. They took control. They started CPR. They kept the family informed. They worked out the little one was choking on food and fought to clear her airway.
When nothing else worked, they cleared the obstruction by hand. And that was the moment the little girl took a breath and came back.
She has now fully recovered.
This is what policing really looks like. Not the loud headlines. Not the negativity. Not the aUdIToRS trying to rage-bait the police. Just two officers running into chaos and saving a child’s life because that is what they do. Day in. Day out.
Huge respect to PC Scott and PC Brown. Absolute credit to Durham Constabulary and to the uniform they wear.
A child's life saved. Family changed forever. All because of two calm, skilled and courageous officers who ran toward the emergency when they were needed most. 💙💙
