Update on the Machakos quarry story:

I have been reliably informed that the quarries have been outlawed by the county but they are still in operation illegally because there is nobody to enforce the ban. The reason for the ban is that the land belongs to the community but was grabbed by a cartel who setup quarries on it and the case has been going on in court so that the land can go back to the community.

The sad part about this story is that the cartel continues to mine the stones to supply the booming construction in Nairobi, meaning by the time the court will have passed its judgement the community will have no land but some pits that are uninhabitable and worth nothing!

The county and national land commission are doing verification with a view to title the local residents the disputed land, why is the county police commander not patrolling this area to block illegal activities at night and during the day? Why wait for innocent buyers from Nairobi to be duped and then fine them yet you are not addressing the main issue?

The community around the quarries cannot even hang their clothes outside because of the dust from the quarry, life is unlivable for the residents. @Wavinya_Ndeti @NemaKenya @HonAdenDuale
