Fires caused by carelessly discarded smoker's material have increased significantly.
A number of fires have started from people putting cigarette butts in planters or flower pots.
The only place to dispose of cigarettes is in a metal container filled with water or sand.
A reminder that there are no open flames, beach fires or fireworks permitted in the City of Vancouver at anytime.
Celebration of Light has licensed pyrotechnicians, fireworks over the water, dozens of firefighters on standby and numerous agencies involved to keep people safe.
