My 19yr old son walked into the back guest bedroom,
I was sitting there with a pile of cash.
Him: Are you a drug dealer?
Me: sit down
I proceeded to tell him this is the amount of money it takes to pay our monthly bills.
His eyes widened.
I had my list.
Me:
Take $— for the mortgage
Take $ for utilities
Take $ for insurance (explained to him about health, disability, life, home) he was shocked!
Take $ for cars/gas
Take $ for cable/ Wi-Fi
Take $ for food
Etc, etc, etc
As he emptied the pile from my table to his,
I asked - “what did we not include?”
He wisely said : Vacations!
Yes!
It was one of the best exercises I’ve ever done with my sons!
He could literally see and understand the evaporation of the cash towards the bills/lifestyle -
It was very funny however when I went to the bank to take out the cash from my account!
They wanted all of the details of why I wanted thousands in cash!
Isn’t it my money? Lol-
It’s time to do this with my younger son, now.
