Some people say FIFA “rigged” the World Cup for Messi in 2022. Let’s think about that logically.

Messi started playing for Argentina in 2005. He’s been chasing this trophy for almost 20 years. If FIFA really wanted to hand him a World Cup, why not do it sooner?

2006: he was young, Argentina lost in the quarterfinals
2010: Argentina got knocked out by Germany, 4-0
2014: Messi made the final and lost to Germany
2018: Argentina were eliminated early by France

That’s four tournaments where FIFA supposedly wanted him to win, and he didn’t. It took until 2022, his fifth World Cup, at age 35, likely his last chance, for Argentina to finally win.

A story that only makes sense at the very end and falls apart at every earlier point isn’t a rigging plot. It’s a great player finally getting there through a great team performance.
