The Institute of Internal Auditors Rwanda (@iiarwanda) today held a press conference at its headquarters in Kigali to discuss the current status, development and future of the internal audit profession in Rwanda.
The press conference brought together leaders from Rwanda’s internal audit profession and representatives of the wider African internal audit community to discuss key developments, emerging opportunities and the role of internal auditors in strengthening accountability and good governance.
The panel included Richard K. Rutuku, Chief Executive Officer of IIA Rwanda; Godwin Akankunda, Senior Vice President of IIA Rwanda; Jules Cesar Hategekimana, Internal Auditor General; Thokozile Kuwali, Chairman of the African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (AFIIA); and Ruth Doreen Mutebe, Regional Director at the Alpha Group and Senior Internal Audit Leader.
During the discussion, the speakers shared insights into the progress made in advancing the internal audit profession in Rwanda, while highlighting the need for continued professional development, strong ethical standards and adaptation to emerging risks.
The panel also addressed the evolving role of internal auditors in organisations, emphasizing the importance of effective internal audit practices in supporting transparency, risk management, accountability and sound decision-making.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the media to interact directly with leaders in the profession and gain a broader understanding of the direction of internal auditing in Rwanda and across Africa.
