@AbernethyOTProf NLT is a fav. As a former Wheaton kid who went to Moody, much of the lore of how it was written reduced my expectations for its specificity/precision. But as a pastor to a LOT of seekers/growing Christians, I exclusively recommend NLT these days.

@combstaylor_ @PastorBenMarsh Yeah, exactly. Crossway has done a good job pushing theological conversation (not all of which I agree with) and it's translated into sales which beget salaries... I have a hard time diminishing/discerning the motives of a person like Taylor or Ortlund because of their salary.

@jdcarswell10 The key is the last part - the unusual attendee. Everything to them is unusual. So help them feel less like an outsider by explaining anything that might not make sense. Our mantra here at our very outsider-friendly church is “people will participate if we explain what and why”.
