The wealth travels upwards and stays up there, hoarded away.
Which causes mayhem at the lower end.
How do we solve this, so everybody can be optimistic about their future and therefore live happier lives?
In 2022, Norway increased their wealth tax to 1.1%. In response, some high profile billionaires moved out of the country. According to a viral claim, this resulted in a net loss of revenue. Is this true?
No. Over the next two years, wealth tax revenue soared to all time highs.
@eli1ah If you’re against tax increases to fund public spending please accept you are a Tory now. Their key foundations are low trust of the state and preference for low tax.
@eli1ah In simple terms - yes, the problems are because they don’t have enough money - whilst / billionaire wealth grows and grows. Try this and see how you get on.

@eli1ah Main point you’re missing is that we are at the bottom end of 10+ years of a low tax, low public spending environment. If you don’t see what you like out there now, don’t selfishly campaign for low tax - it’s completely illogical.
@eli1ah Thanks for your expert insight and direction. Whilst we all do that… can you think about the pipeline of ‘Self-important free-thinker, just asking questions’, who then gets a big corporate contract, eg with Nike, then goes all in on fairly right wing views…
@eli1ah Pro redistributive tax policy, anti-war where possible, pro-sovereignty of Euro countries, aware of effect of USA withdrawing support, Putin sceptic , (+Trump, Zelenskyy). It’s possible to be all of these at the same time and end up with being ok with increased defence spending.
@oronimbus@charlierward@eli1ah Lots of accounts that say those kind of apps can be exploitative and more or less modern serfdom. Most of the time the independent food retailers make more money organising their own delivery and can sell for cheaper - but apps are taking over. Very happy to see that go. Next?
@charlierward@oronimbus@eli1ah The adjustment Labour are suggesting (look at full chart) is basically to something moderate, not near to the adjustment Norway attempted in 2023 (chart is based on 2021 data)
@djlogansama@dj_dndy@eli1ah It’s really not that complex an idea to tax the rich more than the average person. However the apparatus that prevents this runs deep. This includes rich powerful people purchasing media influence to prevent policy change in that direction. It’s a tale as old as time.
@eli1ah Can you think about why you might be really concerned by these right wing narratives used to preserve billionaire’s wealth and power after spending a lot of time on X
@eli1ah Re all this ‘can you think of, what if’ stuff. Look outside - the UK public sphere has been ground down and broken by the low tax policies of the Tory govt. Things are bad because of policies that have favoured the wealthy, over the average person.
