Años después, Ridley Scott recuperó el metraje y lanzó su Director's Cut (194 minutos), mucho más coherente, profunda y ambiciosa, con personajes mejor desarrollados y subtramas clave que dan sentido completo a la historia.

Hoy se considera la única versión que refleja la verdadera visión del director y ha convertido un fracaso en una obra muy valorada. Un ejemplo clásico de cómo los recortes comerciales pueden arruinar una película… y cómo restaurarla la rescata.
