In solidarity
Even though I work for my kids & I work for their families,
Even though I am so lucky to work in a school with a wonderfully caring admin team - all skilled & generous teachers,
Even though NYC will scapegoat teachers & will penalize kids,
Even though,
I will strike

So last night at about 8:00 pm I became The New York Library Association President. I’m honored and thrilled. Can’t wait to get to work letting the world know the important and impactful work librarians and libraries do!❤️😊❤️🤣@NYLA_1890 @nycsla @NYCDOEOLS

It's now important to explain to kids why a majority of adults aren't being safe. Adults do a lot of risky/stupid things (eg smoking, DUI, etc), while pretending there is no danger; adults employ denial to dispel fear, so they can do what they want. That's what I told them.

I've been asked a lot recently about fall school masking plans for my kids. (I should have posted sooner but I needed Twitter down time.)

The short answer is that mask strategy hasn't changed, and that schools are unquestionably more dangerous than this time last year.

@nikkigrimes9 Hi… replying from the Bronx! I’m the school librarian at P.S. 59, a great elementary school on Bathgate, near Fordham Road & Webster.

As we return to school, we’re continuing our advocacy to limit classroom temperatures, helping ensure educators can teach and students can learn.

According to @CDCgov guidance updated this week, "At a high COVID-19 Community Level, universal indoor masking in schools & ECE programs is recommended"

NYC currently has HIGH COVID Community Levels!

Why is @NYCSchools going against CDC guidance @NECS?

The teacher shortage is so bad hat some districts in Texas are cutting back to 4 day weeks, Florida is asking veterans with no teaching experience to get in the classroom, and Arizona is now having college kids teach classes. Where's the outcry about the defunding of education?

[Daniel Leviatin @DLeviatin]

Lord, this is so incredibly irresponsible!
We teach, practice, and trust the integrity of science, but continue to demand scientists and their organizations remain above politics, especially the CDC.

Releases such as this make it so difficult, so awful

[COVID @covidlikes]

Wait, the CDC just gave up?

We knew he was a cop when he was elected, feigning surprise now (by City Council members who can stop this) is disingenuous, pandering, and pitifully obvious

Complicit ass-lickers are all pigs…
City Council members allowing theft = congressional supporters of the criminal trump

Can't get over how the imaginary defunding of police was labeled evil and destructive, but now the very real defunding of education is getting a fraction of the attention

Did every reporter wake up today and forget about the $6 billion+ in federal & state funds that have to be spent by 2025? 🤔
