@johnmristuccia@NHLRumourReport I think he’s trying to posture for the opportunity for free agency. A longer term for the player runs the risk of inflated salaries in the future where something like an $18M is standard by the time he would’ve hit the market. An 8-year deal would rob him of that
@TopTierPucks I know you’re used to rolling through the first round against a California team, but you’re not handling this loss well at all. Therapy isn’t the worst idea to work through whatever you’re going through.
@PjLaird924@hammer1759@JoeViller@NHLRumourReport Until 2030, anyone who wants more than one star player will be in a bind. The Ducks are going to have to ship out vets as well. The situation isn’t as dissimilar as people are pretending. With that said, this was all avoidable and Philly has calculated the risk & deemed it worthy
@PjLaird924@JoeViller@hammer1759@NHLRumourReport All these Flyers saw their GM offer 18 mil, and you think they’ll keep asking for normal rates? The league forever changed last week. Start tacking on a few million to every player worth a damn
32 Thoughts (Summer Finale): On Anaheim…
• Verbeek met with Carlson’s camp on Friday. Team offered between 12 and 13m, Leo’s side countered with 15m.
• Verbeek didn’t see this type offer sheet coming. In Elliotte‘s opinion they have to match it or else they’ll be looking for the next Carlsson.
• He figures the Mintyukov offer sheet threat was from Carolina.
• Anaheim was at the new Zellweger/Buffalo contract with Mintyukov before the offer sheet threat. #FlyTogether
THEO VON: then he took my nose. he took it. it was in his hand he showed me
JOE ROGAN: wow. i didn't know you could do that
THEO: yes it was right in his fingers. i swear to god
JOE: wow. wow
THEO: i started freaking out but then he put it back
JOE: oh thank god. thank god
@DarylMorty@2030Phils@FlyersNation If the Ducks do fire Verbeek (which he absolutely deserves) I think he botched this so badly for the team AND the rest of the league that he’s pretty much going to be out of hockey. The Carlsson deal will eventually prove detrimental to the rest of the NHL. Total disastercalss.
@DarylMorty@2030Phils@FlyersNation I think it’s pretty obvious that Anaheim is now content on relying on their deep prospect pool regarding defensemen and won’t look externally in that regard no matter what happens with Carlsson. It’s a gamble, but it’s clear what they’re doing.
If I'm Anaheim, I start offer sheeting Flyers players every season.
But not huge overpays like this offer sheet. Just slight overpays that Philly will still accept so they don't lose the player. All of them, every season. Death by 1000 cuts.
Yes I'm petty.
@realBLepp@Ryanducks2028@billmeltzer Exactly. If players who would be making $10m are making $17m now, then salaries are raising faster than the cap, and teams aren’t ready for that
