COVID-19 has certainly inspired a great deal of educators to innovate in a short amount of time. But what it confirms is that technology cannot replace teachers and online learning cannot replace in-person learning. Technology is powerful, but only when used effectively.
Distance Learning Tip: As frequently as possible, survey your students to see how their experience is going. It is easy to underestimate how much feedback you absorb in-person that you aren’t getting now.
When people think of distance learning, they often imagine students staring at screens watching lectures. Remember that students learn best when they are DOING the work. Plan activities that allow kids to take control of their own learning and aren’t too reliant on technology.
There are 2 reasons why simplicity is vital in distance learning:
1. It reduces chaos for students and parents in an already chaotic world.
2. It puts less of a strain on you as you try and figure this out.
Remember, an assignment can be both simple in design and rigorous.
