This is probably my favorite memory of Jim Leyland as Tigers’ manager.
On the night they clinched their third consecutive AL Central title, he could’ve just as easily been in the clubhouse celebrating with the rest of the team.
But there he is, sitting and pouring his heart out to fans in the city of Detroit and state of Michigan, who paid their hard-earned money to watch his team in the years following an economic recession.
His genuine selflessness is exactly why he’ll always be beloved by Tiger fans.
