Philanthropy is an ancient Greek word that means loving humanity. Everyone can be a philanthropist...it's not just rich people writing checks. Please give your time, talent, and treasure to help make our country the best it can be. Thanks @BloombergTV for this story on Patriotic Philanthropy within the context of America 250.

On July 4th, we celebrate a document that changed the world, but how many of us know the story behind it? For example, John Adams said that July 2nd would be the day we mark our independence. What happened?
I've spent years studying American history and trying to make it more accessible to more people by restoring historic sites and preserving founding documents. I've also placed replicas of the Declaration in U.S. embassies around the world and in arenas and stadiums across the country so Americans encounter it not just in history class, but in the places where they actually spend their time.
On the occasion of our 250th anniversary, I am pleased to share some thoughts on the history behind the holiday - what we're really celebrating on July 4th and why understanding that history matters. @OneCarlyle

Thanks @washingtonpost@ktumulty for a timely look at the long strange trip the Declaration of Independence took on the way to its permanent home in the @USNatArchives. Might that mysterious hand print belong to Nicolas Cage?

Thanks to the @NationalParkFdn@NatlParkService teams for their years of work...(left) Dr. Kevin Griess, Superintendent of National Mall, NPS, and (right) Jeff Reinbold, President and CEO, NPF. Thanks also to Will Shafroth, former CEO of NPF who worked for years on this project.
And who built the new Lincoln Memorial museum? Here's the construction management team from @Consigli1905...l to r: Brian Hamilton, Steve Braley, Sam Meyerhoff, Adam Cirigliano, me, and Matthew Consigli. Congratulations and thanks!

See inside the "undercroft", the cavernous space beneath the Lincoln Memorial. The Memorial was built on a swamp. 100+ concrete pillars standing on bedrock support the Memorial above. Great video and light show.

After 10+ years of planning and construction the Lincoln Memorial Undercroft Museum is open...and it's amazing!
Get ready for a Tweet storm...starting with the snow storm the day we announced the project in February 2016. @NationalParkFdn@NatlParkService@Interior
Here are my remarks from the Jefferson Memorial ribbon-cutting. The new museum explores Jefferson's life, writings, and the Declaration of Independence. @NatlParkService@NationalParkFdn@Interior
Another iconic memorial in Washington has a new museum....The Jefferson Memorial. We did an official ribbon-cutting today. Thanks to the @NationalParkFdn@NatlParkService@Interior and @RepWesterman for your efforts to bring this needed rehab to fruition. Thanks also to fellow philanthropist John Nau for his support of this and other NPS sites. Please visit and learn more about the genius of Thomas Jefferson.
Thanks @RedSox for your excitement over displaying the Declaration of Independence @fenwaypark.
I'm donating beautiful replicas of the Declaration to @MLB@NFL@NBA ballparks/stadiums/arenas across the country. Go America!
Thanks to @SuperReturn for the opportunity to share my views on the state of the private equity world at your recent conference in Berlin.

For more than a century, one of Washington's best-kept secrets lay beneath the Lincoln Memorial: the Undercroft, a soaring 50,000-square-foot foundation built to keep the landmark from sinking into D.C.'s swampy ground.
Beginning in June, the public will be able to visit the space, now with a museum tracing the memorial's history, from its construction to its role as a powerful stage for the civil rights movement. https://t.co/MbuiPK7DU1
Thanks to @DCNewsNow for this story on the new museum opening under the Lincoln Memorial on June 25. @NatlParkService@NationalParkFdn worked for ten years to take this from concept to reality. Please share...and please visit!
