Physicians, APPs, surgeons, gastroenterologists, advanced endoscopists, motility experts and a room full of people willing to spend their Saturday thinking together about how we can better care for patients with foregut disease.

That was what I loved most about today. Not simply the education, but the thoughtful questions, different perspectives, debates, and exchange of ideas.

Complex foregut disease rarely fits neatly into one specialty or one algorithm, and today was a reminder of what happens when we bring those perspectives together.

ACADEMIC VERSUS PRIVATE MEDICINE

I spent 20 years in academics, rising to Tenured Professor of Medicine before I left the U of Utah to start the Center for Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at Advent Porter Hospital in Denver as part of Peak Gastro.

Now, I am truly in a hybrid practice, mixing both academic and private practice but all in a private hospital setting. I am surrounded by trainees and we have our own Advanced Fellowship as well as a vigorous research program.
