Sybils.. begone!

During @initia 's testnets, we took several steps to reduce sybil attacks and ensure fair participation. Here's a tl;dr from @sinitias 's blog yesterday.

1. Gitcoin passport
Reduced spam and ensured real users received tokens by enforcing previous onchain usage as proof-of-humanity.

2. Frontend detection
Every week, we submitted a Merkle root of user XP to a smart contract. Users needed Merkle proofs to claim their XP; but...

Our backend injected a fake Merkle proof with the real ones.
When fetched through the Initia frontend, we slightly modified that fake proof. The smart contract then checked if the fake proof was modified.

If yes = frontend user
If not = likely script/bot user

3. Further sybil detection with partner
Identified bots by patterns like transaction frequency, sequence, and timing. Bots often showed repeated patterns with short intervals.

Example:
["collect_fee", "swap", "multi_hops_swap", ...]

Perfectly repeated, in the same order. Classic bot signature.

Reminder: These were just signals.

Our final filtering logic was much more complex. Being flagged once was not enough to be excluded. These measures all combined helped ensure a more secure and fair environment for all users.
