The origin and sponsor of death.
“.. but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Genesis 2:17
“…. just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned”
Romans 5:12
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
“…. after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
James 1:15
“…. through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
Romans 8:2
“The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.”
I Corinthians 15:56
“Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,”
Hebrews 2:14
“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him....”
John 8:44
“For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.”
I Corinthians 15:25-26
Good Friday. The paradoxical celebration.
As I reflect on what today signifies, a verse of scripture comes to mind:
“But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands.”
— Isaiah 53:10 NLT
The very Son for whom you proclaimed your love as he stepped forward to be baptized. The beloved Son you instructed all to heed on the mount of transfiguration.
That same Son you were pleased to crush. And you called it a good plan? A Good Friday?
Why, God? Why wasn’t your heart grieved as Jesus cried on the cross? As the nails pierced his feet and hands? Why didn’t you stop the soldiers from striking his head and nailing your beloved Son? Why, God?
The Lord replied: “You, because I saw you and I love you.”
The pain of Christ was nothing compared to the results of his sacrifice: your sins forgiven, you becoming God’s child, you receiving his Spirit.
Tears flow from my eyes as I consider the love of God: the sacrifice of Christ and the goodness of this Friday.
Satan has no power over me.
- He was disarmed of his power and authority by the cross of Jesus.
- I am now hidden with Christ in God.
- I am seated far above every principality and power.
- I trample on serpents and scorpions and all the power of the enemy, and nothing can harm me.
It's so sad that many Christians haven't received a revelation of what the Church truly is.
Some think I just love pastors or enjoy defending the church, but that's not the case.
I reverence the Church. God has given me a revelation of His Church. The Church is the bride of Christ, a glorious bride without spot or wrinkle.
It's okay to correct a man's wife, but when you start insulting and mocking her, you had better be ready to fight the man.
Don't you know that whoever is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him?
"The two shall become one flesh. This is a profound mystery, but I am speaking about Christ and the Church".
On the road to Damascus, Paul saw a great light and heard a voice saying,
"Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?"
Be careful lest you'll be fighting against Christ himself.
It is hard for you to kick against the goads.
The Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
- Romans 8:26
For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.
- Habakkuk 2:3
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And my thoughts than your thoughts.
- Isaiah 55:8-9
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And my thoughts than your thoughts.
- Isaiah 55:8-9
I used to love my wife because she earned it.
When she was kind, I was kind.
When she respected me, I respected her.
When she didn't—I didn't.
Marriage was a transaction.
A balance sheet.
I gave what I got.
Nothing more.
Then one Sunday our pastor said something I couldn't shake.
"The way you treat your wife is the way you treat the Lord."
I thought he was being poetic.
He wasn't.
That night I looked at my wife.
Really looked.
She was exhausted.
The kids had been brutal.
The house was chaos.
And I was keeping score.
Waiting for her to earn my kindness.
That's when it hit me:
I wasn't loving a woman.
I was worshiping myself.
Every act of service I withheld was worship I stole from God.
Every cold shoulder was an altar to my ego.
Every "she started it" was a prayer to my own righteousness.
Marriage isn't a contract between two people.
It's an offering to the One who made them.
I started loving her differently.
Not because she deserved it.
Because He does.
I served her when she didn't thank me.
I pursued her when she pulled away.
I led when I didn't feel like leading.
Not for applause.
For an audience of One.
She noticed.
Not right away.
But one night she said:
"You're different. What happened?"
I told her the truth.
"I stopped loving you to get something back."
"I started loving you to give something up."
She didn't understand at first.
Now she does.
When you love your spouse as an act of worship
Everything shifts.
The scoreboard disappears.
The transaction ends.
And marriage becomes what it was always supposed to be.
A daily death to self.
A living sacrifice.
An act of worship disguised as a Wednesday night doing dishes.
Your spouse isn't your enemy.
They're your offering.
Treat them like one.
This is what the Lord says:
“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches,
but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know Me.
Jeremiah 9:23-24
