Zach Aston-Reese. 2 years. Philadelphia Flyers.
Aston-Reese has agreed to terms on a 2-year (yr. 1 - $850k one way. yr. 2 $700/$900k) NHL contract with the Flyers. The orange and black just got another Gold Star ⭐️ #LetsGoFlyers#WeAreGoldStar!
A couple of former Penguins get paid. Well-deserved for both.
The Pens obviously have younger goalie and bottom-six options. Like, so many bottom-six options.
Can't help but wonder about Erik Karlsson's future with the Penguins with Wotherspoon traded. Currently there's no one on the left side of the Penguins' blue line that feels like a good fit to play with him.
The Penguins have acquired D Kaedan Korczak from the Golden Knights for Parker Wotherspoon. They retain 50% of Wotherspoon's contract.
Korczak is signed through 2029-30 with an AAV of $3.25 million.
Will Horcoff got shoulder surgery about 9 weeks ago. Had played through the injury since December. That's basically when his goal-scoring tailed off.
But it was a big year for the 2025 first-round pick anyway (25 goals in 40 games). He talked about his leap from the year before:
Penguins forward prospect Will Horcoff said he had surgery on his right shoulder approximately nine weeks ago.
He suffered the injury around Christmas while skating for Michigan.
Current Penguins’ blue line:
• Erik Karlsson, 36, one year left on deal (have to think he can be had in trade for right price, though it would have to be a large return)
• Kris Letang, 39, two years left on deal (Penguins are open to trading him, but there don’t appear to be any suitors)
• Sam Girard, 28, one year left on deal, struggled a good bit in Pittsburgh
• Kaedan Korczak, 25, three years left on deal
• Ryan Graves, 31, likely worst free agent signing in franchise history
• Caleb Jones…
• Ilya Solovyov…
• Jake Livanavage
Kyle Dubas either has something significant up his sleeve or wants Harrison Brunicke and Owen Pickering in Pittsburgh next season.
One way or the other, his blue line needs serious work. Other than Karlsson, the Penguins’ best defensemen last season unquestionably were Ryan Shea (who appears to be departing via free agency) and Wotherspoon.
Liam Ruck on seeing Markus get drafted by the Penguins: "I might have been happier than when I got picked. Just to hear that he’s coming with me and that we get to share our journey together, it means the world to both of us."
