Skip one coffee a day. Invest it in VOO for your kid instead.
Let's give them a £2k starter fund at birth
Then add just £5/day (~£1,825/yr)
Holiday boosts: Christmas £150, Easter £75, birthday £100, etc. (~£425/yr extra)
Total invested over ~31 years: ~£72,000
Result at ~10% historical avg annual return (with dividends reinvested)?
Over £500,000 by your kid's early 30s.
That's the power of starting small + time + compounding. ☕ → 🏦🚀
Past performance isn't a guarantee, but damn... what if?
@LoneGreyWolfUK The consumption phase and being retired is a totally different skill set and mindset to accumulation
I get DMs every day from guys telling me my strategy is wrong. Strangely when I reply that I'm retired 8 years already they don't message back.
@SparkingFIRENC I loved thrift shopping. I bought a new pair if Hush Puppies for $10 and designer polos for $5-10.
Now I go to Bangkok every year to shop in the huge thrift warehouses. I take an empty suitcase and fill it up.
@UK_Compounder I filled up on unleaded in the Philippines yesterday. Prices have risen slightly we're now at about £0.80 per litre for diesel and £0.85 for unleaded
Research, invest, think, reflect and plan.
Challenge each of your views on your current life - What you live, what you'd change. Chat to guys who are retired. Learn lessons from them. There is no ultimate right path as we're all different.
Invest because without the assets retirement is not an option
Think outside the box. What do you want in your day? How do you want to spend it? With whom? Where and Why?
Reflect and visualise your future self. View a 360 if your planned life in harsh reality not through rise coloured glasses.
As you learn an evolve keep challenging your plan and adaptung. 40 years old you will have different needs to 40 years old you.
Life is a journey not a destination so enjoy the ride and plan to live where you're treated best.
@9to5toMarkets We're going to base ourselves in PH for the next few years. Travel around and back and forth to Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia
@9to5toMarkets We keep busy by having fun. We're planning a couple of holidays in the next month too. We have a 5 months old son so haven't travelled as much this last year.
Today is the start of summer here in the Philippines.
But we've got it covered 2 x Cornettos for $1.00. yes that's two icecreams for $1.
When you're thinking about retirement, consider what you can get for your money.
@LoneGreyWolfUK@randrewcworth You watching your weight? Check out Joel Greene. He has some interesting ideas. I dropped 40lb in 4 months about 5 years ago and have kept it off since. No more yoyo
@SparkingFIRENC I found when I left a business to go to a competitor I got lots of calls. People wanting jobs, people wanting info. When I retired I never got a single call.
@UK_Compounder I set up DCAs at low target prices on Trading 212. I keep a surplus just in case all hit the price. If the stock hits then it gets bought. I retired in the Philippines so I'm sleeping while the US market is open.
