Chennai Corporation Commission J Radhakrishnan speaks to @Ahmedshabbir20. He asks about did stormwater drains not work? Did structural measures fail? JRK says this event cannot be compared to other rains

Morning. People who are living in the better parts of the city posting pictures of the roads, sky, sun from above with 'Chennai is back on its feet' caption from the 5th floor can do better. No, Chennai is no way near close to being back to normal. There are still various parts of the city flooded with people stranded with no power, water, electricity, food, internet for 48+ hours who need urgent attention. Places like Thoraipakkam, Madipakkam, Velachery, Pallikaranai, Karapakkam, Perumbakkam, Perungalathur, Sholinganallur, Royapuram, Perambur, Jafferkhanpet, Saidapet (sorry if I missed any) are badly affected. Importantly, even if the water is drained out, the real challenge will challenge after that for all ground floor residents. The house will be an absolute mess & will be take a week/weeks to get back to normalcy. It's gonna take a lot of physical, financial, emotional toil (giving you first hand report being a ground floor resident who has experienced multiple floods including the great 2015 one).
Long way to go, until then we keep working, stay for each other & show empathy. We will bounce back.
Shout out to all the great human beings, officers, officials, army people, corporation, rescue opp teams who are ON THE GROUND to help these people. 'Enna dhaan Antony um Harold um business'a control pannalum, keezha erangi vela seiyya oruthan venum la' types. True heroes.
Altast signal came and can share what i posted in FB in few minutes i got signal yesterday.
Michaung one of the best Cyclone giving rainfall for KTCC, even better than Ogni (2006), Nisha (2008) and Nivar (2000).
Note: Nisha was historic for Delta belts.
Holy hell, this needs urgent attention. No electricity, food, and water and just a bunch of snakes. Parameshwara Nagar, Vaigai Street, Perungalathur. @chennaicorp@Vijaykarthikeyn
This is Mylapore, off Radhakrishnan Salai near Vivekananda college. NO ONE has come to clear the water here. It’s been like this since yesterday, and by the minute more sewage water is coming out and getting mixed. Water has entered all the houses at ground floor level here. Please do something about this and other parts of Mylapore. Water has never stagnated here, not even during the 2015 floods. All through the year, they kept digging up the roads and multiple times the roads caved in and they kept restoring. Now the whole thing has reversed and water is completely stagnated. People in the apartments and houses here are not able to step outside to get basic needs and provisions. Not even drinking water. We’ve not had power for more than 48 hours now. The power was cut around 10 PM day before yesterday. No network either, until we come out of the apartment or go to some corners in the terrace. @chennaicorp@chennaipolice_ KINDLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS AREA AT THE EARLIEST! #ChennaiRains #CycloneMichaung #Chennai #ChennaiRains2023
Our hearts go out to those affected. Let's stand together in support, spreading awareness, and contributing to relief efforts.🤝 Every gesture counts. #ChennaiFloods#StaySafe 🙏🤲
A friend of mine resides in Brindavan Street, Mylapore. @chennaicorp@chennaipolice_
Her message: We are sinking by the minute: no electricity, and absolutely no possible route of evacuation. Unless the water from the street is pumped out, we are trapped inside our building.
UPDATE: This update is from my friend residing on Brindavan Street, Mylapore. ‼️
Mass evacuation isn't feasible; solution is to pump out water from affected areas.
Volunteers who can offer supplies, food, and essentials in Brindavan Street & other areas in Mylapore, please DM.
