@zusty @vaalkerry @stevepowers @Lulu Not exactly on point, but when I read that I immediately pictured some reverse Halloween event where everyone's parents went trick or treating and their adult children stayed home, watched the Great British Bake Off, and occasionally handed out hard candy.
@WarrenPrice That game gets its hooks in me about once a year, and that skill tree is the reason. I hit a wall the first time I played tho; lmk if I can help with builds or questions.
@dphrygian On one hand, ugh.
On the other, it's convenient when someone is such an insufferable tool that their opinions / existence can be comfortably excised from the realm of the human.
"Sorry you chose to live in the Choad-Bog, let us know if you ever put the mammal skinsuit back on."
If you're in the area and want to say hello, just reach out! I've got a shadow agenda of delicious meals and seeing hole-in-the-wall places in Oakland that I miss dearly from when I lived there.
I'm usually pretty comfortable with my decision to treat Twitter like some highly-radioactive isotope that can only be looked at for a few minutes each day, but that means I also forget to use it when it's actually useful. I'll be heading to SF for the GDC week.
This is actually 90% a social visit; I'll be seeing some coworkers that I haven't physically seen in years, and others than I've never met in the flesh --- which is such a strange thing to say. Still, I'm really looking forward to it.
🚨To mark 2 yrs of the pandemic, I wrote about the sheer scale of death, and how/why so much of the US has normalized to it.
The official toll nears 1 million. The NYT called 100k deaths an “incalculable loss”.
What is 10 times incalculable? 1/

UPDATE: The seven A.V. Club workers in Chicago have decided to take their union-contract-protected severances rather than move to L.A. without a cost-of-living adjustment. A statement from the union (1/X):
@TheMarkVernon Thanks, man! Boston did indeed treat us well; we recently followed a visiting professorship for Catherine to Ohio, which was a huge culture shock, lemme tell you. Regardless, glad you're doing well and still with Ubi. Happy holidays! Send everyone my regards.
@TheMarkVernon Til the 27th. We've done the works (rapid testing, boosters, N95s, all the sanitizer one could bathe in), but I admit the first air holiday travel in ~2.5yrs had me a bit nervous. Still, I'm having some serious happy-nostalgia walking around Oakland right now. How're you?
