@mackdunnaz I’m ok with opinions LOL they don’t have to be so exaggerated tho. Both great movies to me. I just hate the glaze on both sides but the “leave this up to interpretation for arts sake” elevated horror shtick is wearing me out and that’s what backrooms was in comparison. Still good
Topuria dated a whore from Miami who left him - GOT KO'D
Demetrious Johnson stayed loyal to his wife for 20 years - GOT KO'd
Conor married his highschool sweetheart - got KO'd
Only person that NEVER LOST is JON JONES who beats women
Lessons in there.
@mackdunnaz Everything he does is just so good. He’s a real action star but yea also phenomenal at drama. Just great all around. Mission impossible will probably go down as the only franchise with nothing but bangers (yes even 2, especially 2) lmao
@mackdunnaz Oh I’m aware. That’s also a part of the issue I have with him. But yea minority report is another banger. Shout out the goat tom cruise. Gonna miss that man when he’s gone.
@BrokenGamezHDR_ I think the title is more of an entandre for him just going to war with the Gods fam lol. But more importantly I guess, ppl think of kratos/ares when they hear god of war just like ppl think of Poseidon when they hear god of the sea as it pertains to this series.
@mackdunnaz Backrooms wasn’t a bad movie by any means. In my opinion I just didn’t like the ending bc of how long I followed the backrooms conspiracy for several years. If I had watched this with no history I’m sure my thoughts would be different.
Aight look. This is the only time I’m engaging with this engagement ass tweet. The movie wasn’t trash. First two acts were amazing. It just didn’t stick the landing. You ppl are so cringe with your hot takes.
Went and saw @BackroomsMov.
Should’ve been called Whackrooms. The unbearable stench of wasted potential. Whole theater couldn’t stop laughing.
Someone really took this ambitious & stirring concept, then decided “actually??? Ok, hear me out: the film MUST be about an alcoholic furniture salesman & his therapist…”
I wish that was a joke.
Miss me with the “it’s a metaphor!” mess - the original series understood metaphor & narrative, this “version” merely smashes you over the head with a whiffle bat labeled “STORY”, like therapist-lady (a character so bland I refuse to remember her name) smashing Crack Sparrow’s [more on him in a sec] peg leg with a coatrack to defeat him…
(& I so wish that last sentence, too, was said in jest; no, that’s taken directly from the “cLiMaCtiC” showdown towards the very end. sorry for any spoilers, I guess…?)
@Kanepixels7 (if that is your real account) - they did you dirty. First @A24 stinker I’ve ever seen, can’t believe it’s in the same pantheon as Midsommar or The Lighthouse…
I don’t know which I want back more:
- my $82.75 for four tickets
- 105 minutes of my life
- an unsullied perception of this IP
- my lost respect for @MarkDuplass (wedged into the last five minute of the film cuz why not??? MD, I doubt you’ll see this, but you did the best with what you were given… I just think you should’ve sat this one out; if you helm the inevitable sequel - especially creatively - & it rocks? I’ll be elated!)

I have so many more thoughts on this trash fire - tempted to pen a longform review, but no one would read it, lol — instead, let me “treat you” to two images that exemplify everything wrong with this… thing.
first: the malevolent, imposing, & purposefully enigmatic dark beings from the OG liminal breakout web series…
second: what I’ve “affectionately” named “Captain Crack Sparrow”, the … “bad guy” … from the 2026 big-budget film known as The Backrooms:
Just finished watching “The Backrooms” .. This movie is going to do REALLY well for a moment because people are on such a high from how good “Obsession” was that they want to experience something like that again.
With that being said. It’s going to get trashed endlessly beyond repair outside of a small “cult” community that’s going to say that they liked it just to be different and that everyone else “just didn’t get it.”
The most disappointing part of it all was how much potential it has to be FANTASTIC. If I wasn’t with my cousin I would have walked out not even halfway through.
Let down for sure and I don’t like to hate on art especially from a first time director but I gotta remind myself art is subjective and meant to garner different opinions good or bad.
Is anyone else noticing a lot of vague negative tweets about The Backrooms coming exclusively from blue check accounts who, after a simple scroll, have never posted about movies before??
