Today, there are some languages in Ghana that you don’t need formal teaching to learn. You hear them everywhere, on TV, radio, in movies, music, and even on TikTok. You absorb them naturally. Twi is one of such languages.

But for others, including Ga, which are not as widely heard daily, one must make a conscious effort to learn, and that learning can only come from the custodians. Yet if the custodians are not open to teaching, growth becomes difficult.

In fact, this is one of the key reasons many non-Akan languages struggle to expand and gain wider usage across the country. In the 21st century, language thrives through love, openness, and active teaching, not restriction, coercion or by force.

So Dr Lawrence Tetteh, sir, many may not say this openly, but this is one of the underlying reasons why some languages including Ga are not growing beyond their regions.

So in this same context again, Dr Lawrence Tetteh, your statement about the Twi language is quite unfortunate.
