Here's the thing: the property taxes pay for many of the local services, primarily schools. The price of the property tax is evidence of inefficiency that needs to be fixed. Eliminating property taxes without cutting costs means increasing income taxes. Increasing income taxes means working people leave for neighboring states. Decreasing property taxes means retired people come in and suck up all the houses because they then pay no income tax or property tax.
The correct answer is for all the property owners, so long as there are enough of them to form a voting block, to force the costs lower by rejecting spending proposals, not by leaving for a place that has not yet decayed as much.

If reparations for past events was reasonable (it never is) then I think much more reasonable than giving descendants of African slaves reparations would be to require every person in the world who is not an ethnic descendant of the British people or of early Amercian settlers to pay the descendants of the native British and the descendants of the early Americans reparations for ending slavery for them and creating the world they live in.

lol. well it's credible to me, since i remember it.
But even if I'm wrong about that, it seems clear that if gasoline was $2.10 a gallon 15 years ago and is $4.20 a gallon today then gas is actually cheaper now than it was 15 years ago in light of the roughly 2x increase in salary, rent and food, and asset prices like houses and stocks (i.e. the actual inflation rate that a poor to middle class person feels) over the same time period. These are not numbers that can be quantified to anyone's satisfaction because the variables are nearly endless. But, if you 'feel' like everything has gotten twice as expensive as you 'remember' it (which is a common sentiment) then gasoline must either be another data point to support that feeling or else it is the only outlier that has been trending downward in price over that time period.
This is currently a price spike that will reverse in some time. A price spike of the same or greater magnitude 15 years ago was more painful.

Gasoline, accounting for inflation is about half the price it was coming out of the financial crisis during the Obama administration.
We have had at least 100% inflation in real goods people buy since that time and gas is just about the same price, measured in $.
