Doha Forum 2026 will convene under the theme: “Redefining Global Trust.”
At a moment of profound change in the global order, the theme reflects the importance of trust and the need for it to be actively shaped and sustained in today’s global context.
To advance cooperation on international law education and training, the @UNESCOChairHBKU, Prof. @dsolawuyi together with the President of the @ILAGulfCCouncil Dr. Ahmed Essa Alsulaiti today paid a courtesy visit to Maha Al Kuwari, @Maha_al_kuwari, General Manager of @DohaForum. Joined the MED Dialogues–Doha Forum Regional Initiative in Milan on Friday for a session on EU-GCC energy and industrial cooperation, organized by @ispionline and @DohaForum. We explored the strategic obstacles and opportunities facing this partnership in light of current geopolitical developments. While the challenges are real, the future looks genuinely promising.
The relationship between #Europe and the #GCC needs more than bilateral contracts. It demands collective strategic alignment. Mutual obligations do not emerge from mutual interest alone. They require a strategic structure.
Honored to participate in the @DohaForum and @MEDialogues Regional Initiative in Milan, where discussions focused on the future of EU-GCC cooperation amid a rapidly shifting regional landscape.
The conversations highlighted the growing importance of strategic coordination in areas such as regional security, crisis management, energy security, maritime stability, and post-conflict resilience. In an era of uncertainty, sustained dialogue between the Gulf and Europe is no longer optional, it is increasingly strategic and necessary.
At the @MEDialogues and @DohaForum Regional Initiative in Milan, Dr. @majedalansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar, and President of CIPR, joined @EUSR_Gulf, EU Special Representative for the Gulf Region, in a panel on the future of #EUGCCCooperation moderated by journalist Maria Cuffaro of RAI and Dr. Paolo Magri, President of the @ispionline Advisory Board. Against a backdrop of renewed instability across the #MiddleEast, the panel examined the political, strategic, and diplomatic challenges facing both blocs, exploring avenues for stronger cooperation in security, crisis management, #EnergySecurity, and trade, with particular attention to the implications of the current crisis for the #Gulf, the #Levant, and the maritime domain, and to joint strategies that could foster resilience and support post-conflict stabilisation.
CIPR proudly co-organized the @MEDialogues and @DohaForum Regional Initiative in partnership with @ispionline in Milan, 7-8 May 2026. The event brought together policymakers, experts, and researchers to identify effective joint actions for a post-conflict scenario, focusing on #EUGCCCooperation in security, crisis management, #EnergySecurity, and trade across the #Gulf, the #Levant, and the maritime domain.
On May 8, 2026, Dr. Christian Koch, Executive Manager of the Brussels Office and Director of Research at the Gulf Research Center Foundation Brussels (GRCF-B), and Hannan Alghamdi, Researcher at the Gulf Research Center (GRC), participated in the closed-door session “EU-GCC Cooperation: Bridging Stability in an Era of Fragmentation,” organized by ISPI @ispionline and CIPR @CIPResearch as part of the MED Dialogues / Doha Forum @DohaForum discussions held in Milan.
During the second panel, “A Post-Conflict Regional Order: The Levant,” Hannan Alghamdi spoke on developments in Syria, the evolving regional role of the GCC, and the importance of EU-GCC coordination in supporting long-term regional stability and institutional recovery.
Qatar Urges Diplomacy and Collective Security at Italy Forum on EU-GCC Relations
Milan | May 8, 2026
Advisor to the Prime Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Majed Mohammed Al Ansari has called for greater international cooperation and renewed diplomatic engagement to address growing regional and global instability.
Speaking at a session in Milan titled "Bridging Stability: EU-GCC Cooperation in an Era of Fragmentation", Dr Al Ansari said ongoing conflicts and geopolitical crises were placing increasing pressure on global stability and decision-making processes.
The event was organized by the Doha Forum and MED Dialogues in partnership with the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) and the Center for International Policy Research (CIPR).
Dr Al Ansari warned that some actors were seeking to promote political narratives and approaches aimed at advancing their strategic interests amid intensifying competition for influence and shifting global power balances.
He stressed that political and military pressure did not necessarily lead to sustainable solutions or long-term stability, underlining the importance of mediation and diplomacy in resolving conflicts.
Questioning the effectiveness of diplomacy, he said, reflected "a growing need for it rather than the opposite".
The Qatari official also urged countries to continue working through dialogue and diplomatic channels to prevent further escalation and avoid deeper cycles of conflict.
He said the current war had affected international relations, including ties between Europe, the United States and countries in the Middle East, with wider consequences for energy security, the global economy, supply chains and international alliances.
Dr Al Ansari added that security and stability could no longer be achieved by individual states acting alone, but instead required collective cooperation and broader international coordination.
Concluding his remarks, he highlighted the growing interconnectedness between nations and the political, economic and security impact of current crises, calling for a shared vision to confront rapidly evolving regional and international challenges.

During my participation in this important session in Milan on EU–GCC relations, alongside my dear friend @EUSR_Gulf, I highlighted that EU–GCC relations are more vital than ever in today’s environment of regional instability, where coordination across security, energy, & trade is increasingly essential.
Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the #Ministry of Foreign Affairs, @majedalansari, took part in a session in #Milan on cooperation between the European Union and the #Gulf Cooperation Council (@GCC) in the post-war period, organised by the @DohaForum and Mediterranean Dialogues Forum. Al-Ansari highlighted the growing complexity of regional and international #crises, warning that some parties are pushing political narratives to serve strategic interests amid intensifying competition for #influence. He said political and military #pressure does not necessarily lead to lasting stability, stressing the importance of #diplomacy.
Great discussions yesterday and today in Milan, with my friend @majedalansari and impressive lineup of experts brought together by @ispionline and @DohaForum. I called for a region-led diplomatic solution, and spoke about EU contribution.
At Palazzo Clerici in Milan, Doha Forum and @MEDialogues convened a conversation on the future of EU–GCC relations, set against rising regional instability, in partnership with @ispionline and @CIPResearch.
From security and crisis management to energy, trade, and key maritime routes, the discussion focused on how both regions can move from shared challenges to coordinated responses.
