Local governments can apply for grants of $10,000 to $249,000 to purchase slip-on tanker units, which can convert vehicles to be operated as wildland fire engines. 🛻➡️🚒

Exciting news! @Interior is taking the next step to implement the U.S. Wildland Fire Service (WFS) by welcoming Chief Brian Fennessy to lead the process with the vision of unifying wildland fire management across Interior’s bureaus and offices.

Creation of the WFS will position Interior to meet evolving wildfire challenges and support a more coordinated and effective approach to safeguarding people, landscapes, and natural resources.

Did you know helicopters have played a vital role in wildland firefighting since 1946? It all started when a Bell 47 took to the skies to recon a wildfire—and today, helicopters are indispensable tools for fire management.

From transporting firefighters and moving equipment to water drops, aerial ignition, and vital observation missions, these aircraft have truly revolutionized how we fight wildfires. We’ve come a long way since those early days, and the tools have only gotten better!
