On this day in 1836, the Texian forces won the Battle of San Jacinto against the brutal, evil dictator Santa Anna.

Sam Houston and his commanders fought the lopsided battle against overwhelming odds and secured the freedom for the Republic of Texas.

The battle resulted in 650 Mexican soldiers killed while only 11 Texians would die that day or later from their wounds in battle.

The lives of the men at the massacres of the Alamo and Goliad were not lost in vain and helped secure the victory in the final battle for Texas Independence.

Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!
