Yancey Strickler (Kickstarter founder) just launched what could be the next version of the internet
called DFOS (Dark Forest Operating System)
it lets communities build their own private internets where they control everything instead of relying on platforms
and it’s basically the internet rebuilt into private, self-owned networks instead of one global feed

i understand where the “just donate to charity” people are coming from, i do … but my view on this is different
the reality is that, through charity coins, charitable orgs will raise more money than they would otherwise, as many of the same people who can’t afford to straight-up “donate” are indeed willing to take a financial risk in the name of charity if it means that they have at least a chance to get something back from it
for most, it’s not that they wouldn’t donate to charity if they could — it’s that they literally cannot afford to just give their money away (despite being good-hearted people)
these charity coins have — in a single day — done tens of millions of dollars in volume … that’s tens of millions of dollars that people were (are) willing to risk in the name of charity with the possibility of making something back that they likely would not simply “donate” without any possibility of return
bottom line: many of the good-hearted people in this world cannot afford to donate their money to charity — they don’t have the disposable income to do that without any chance of return … but many of those same people will absolutely take a financial risk (with potential reward) in the name of charity
no matter what way you look at it, this simply results in more money going to charity than would otherwise
