STATUES OF NEMRUT - KINGDOM OF COMMAGENE

It is a special area on the top of Mount Nemrut, in the shape of a pyramid, 50 meters high, with three terraces, with a tomb in the center of the Commagene King Antiochus I (probably built in 62 BC). There are 5 large statues 33 ft (10 meters) high on the west terrace: King Antiochus I, Zeus, Apollo/Mithra, goddess Tyche and Heracles; next to them are the eagle and the lion, which are the royal symbols associated with the Commagene dynasty. Due to earthquakes - various natural disasters, the heads of the statues fell and their heads were placed around the tumulus.
