He was drafted 890th overall in 2016.
Debuted with a 10.50 ERA.
Had Tommy John surgery.
Bounced through seven organizations.

In 2025, he was DFA'd three times in a single summer, shuttled between the Mets and Yankees like lost luggage.

His career ERA was 5.27.

The O's claimed him off waivers in August and saw something nobody else did and they gave him a $900K deal.

He's repaid them with the best start to a season by a reliever in franchise history:
1 hit and 1 earned run over 17 innings.

Baseball doesn't care about your draft slot, your ERA, or how many times you've been told to pack your bags. Sometimes the best stories take a decade to write. Rico's story is a special one.
