Both Micah Cheserem (CBK Governor '93 - '01) & Jacinta Mwatela (former CBK Deputy Governor '05 & later Acting Governor '06/'07) agree that the Exchange Control & Compensation regime of the '90s was a fine mess & a conduit for corruption that enabled the infamous Goldenberg scam.

Mwatela, however, argues that Cheserem's decision to destroy/burn Exchange Control & Compensation documents (~ 47 lorry loads by his own statement) undermined the quest for justice as far as the Goldenberg scam was concerned because she was already in court on the matter & was relying on those documents as evidence.

Don't know her or you just heard her for the first time? Stay with me because we're about to change that.

In the year 2004, a village called Mumias in Kenya welcomed a bouncy baby girl. Madina Okot Mullah.
Before 2020, Okot still didn't know if she could throw a basketball because she was still playing volleyball at Bishop Sulumeti High school. Madina started playing basketball after switching schools from Bishop Sulumeti High school in Kakamega to Kaya Tiwi high school in Ukunda.
Standing 6 feet 6 inches, Madina had to be taught basketball from scratch. From dribbling, to the rules of the game and everything in between. This might be the best decision she has ever made in her life.

The rise of Okot started at the age of 17 where she was among the chosen to represent Kenya's 3×3 U23 team at the Commonwealth games. Her performance in this competition attracted many including Eastern Michigan University. Unfortunately, her visa got delayed and as a result delayed her the chance to play in the United States. However, Okot was recognised by her country and was deservedly named at the Kenyan Sports Personality of the year award as the most promising rising female athlete in the country.

As her Visa got worked out, Madina continued to put in the work at Zetech University for two seasons. She then signed for the Kenya Ports authority(KPA) team where she greatly helped them claim the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) League title.
Her basketball journey suffered as another suspension, albeit short-lived, was issued in March 2021 due to a spike in COVID-19-positive cases. She took this as a blessing in disguise where she put in a lot of work behind the scenes as she needed to be able to compete at the highest level because unlike many players, she had started late.

In 2023, her journey continued on an upward trajectory as the same team finished second at the FIBA Africa Women's Basketball team which also was named as the team of the tournament. Have I mentioned that this is the same year where she was the ONLY African player to be included in the Women's Team roster at the Nike Hoop Summit? And did I mention that she was the Most Valuable Player(MVP) at the 3x3 Africa Cup competition, and won the Africa Cup in the same year?

In August 2024, her fifth visa was approved and she finally left Zetech University for Mississippi University in the USA.That year, Okot led Mississippi State to the second round of the NCAA tournament. She later joined the University of Southern Carolina for the 2024-25 season, a team that is a major prospect in producing top WNBA stars and under Coach Dawn Staley.

Today, Madina Okot AKA Big Mama, leads the NCAA in double doubles(13) averaging 15.1 points, 11.3 rebounds on 60.8% FG for the top-flight South Carolina Gamecocks.

She is one of the best players in the Women's NCAA Basketball. She's already a first round WNBA prospect, and will be the 3rd Kenyan after Josephine Achieng Owino and Olivia Nelson-Ododa, to be drafted to the WNBA, and definitely with the potential to become the most successful.

Kiharu Masomo Bora - 2026 Edition.

Grateful to have launched the program today.

1.The Programme covers over 12,000 learners in all 65 Day Secondary Schools in Kiharu.

3.All learners to be served lunch at School on all days, including Saturdays. Githeri 3 days and rice 3 days. Uji for “tea” break.

4.Chapati to be served for lunch every last Friday of the Month.

5.Additional Ksh 10 M for revision materials to be provided by Kiharu NG – CDF this Financial Year. Ksh 20M has been provided in the previous years.

6.More than Ksh 50M to be provided for additional infrastructure, with a bias on laboratories. More has been provided since the programme started.

7.All students joining grade 10 in the 20 identified schools with low enrolment and the new schools (those starting this year) to be provided with uniforms for free.

8.All the 65 Day Schools will be provided with an extra Ksh 50,000 to supplement the activity kitty since capitation is not enough. For music festivals, games, and co-curricular activities.

9.Ksh 900,000 is provided for prize-giving celebrations. Ksh 450,000 for each of the two Sub Counties (Murang’a East and Kahuro). This is to reward the best performers without having parents pay for it.

10.The best improved teacher per subject in each of the sub-counties to get a paid-up trip to Mombasa. This will include the previous year, since some were participating in the marking of KCSE when they could have travelled. (From the MP – since public resources don’t have this provision).

11.Principals from the best and best-improved schools per ward to have a fully paid-up trip to Dubai. Of the 6 wards, twelve Principals will travel. Those who have travelled to Dubai before may choose to travel to Malaysia.

12.Schools with remedial arrangements capped at Ksh 1,000 per Term.

14.Premiums and general service of buses owned by Day Secondary Schools to be paid for by the programme. Since they are common utilities accessible to and by any public institution.

15.The programme covers all learners, including Kenyans from other parts of the Country as long as they are in any of our Day Secondary Schools.

I’m currently stuck at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Surgical Ward 4C, and I honestly don’t know what else to do.

The SHA officer handling discharges at the 4D office is very rude, corrupt, and abusive.

Since yesterday, I’ve been waiting in line to have my child discharged.

This officer keeps ignoring the queue and only attends to people she personally calls aside - people she seems to know.

We’ve been here since yesterday, yet she just walks out, brings in others, processes them fast, and leaves the rest of us stranded.

When I politely told her that what she was doing was unfair, she got angry, banged her office door, and later called me in.

Inside, she fined me Ksh 2,070, saying my baby overstayed an extra day after discharge.

I immediately rushed to Malipo Center downstairs and paid the amount, but when I came back, she said she wouldn’t discharge my baby unless I wrote an apology letter to her, stamped by the area Chief!

I never insulted her or caused a scene - I only questioned her favoritism and suspicious behavior. Right now, my baby is being held at KNH just because I refused to bow to corruption and humiliation.

I’m pleading for help. Can the relevant authorities please intervene?

This is unfair, and no parent should go through this kind of frustration when their child is in hospital.
