From @politico- Capitol Police Acting Assistant Chief Sean Gallagher, on when the fence around the Capitol will be removed: “Once we get through the State of the Union and have a successful event, a decision will be made soon after about the removal of the fence.”
The reinstallation of the fencing around the U.S. Capitol could again be a nuisance to many D.C. residents, who complained for months after Jan. 6 that they blocked usual commuting routes and kept people from using the open spaces of the grounds. https://t.co/xhh67RoB56
The #CapitolFence has returned, along with other barriers and security - including #NationalGuard. Precautions are amped up even beyond regular #StateOfTheUnion standards, given concerns about truck convoys and perhaps Putin.
For now, fence openings allow access to the Capitol.
Hi all, the fence is coming back, temporarily, for State of the Union. We will report here as things develop, but we don’t anticipate this being long-term, thankfully. Other good sources of info can be found by our friends @theHillisHome
You can’t love your country only when you win.
You can't obey the law only when it's convenient.
You can't be patriotic when you embrace or enable lies.
DC residents pay the highest per capita federal taxes in the country yet are denied voting representation in Congress, including members of MPD who helped save the Capitol and democracy itself that day, and full self-government. It’s long past time for #DCStatehood.
One year after the insurrection at the Capitol, we are reminded that this was not just an attack on the Capitol, but on #DC itself. DC has no control over its National Guard, and its police force can be federalized.
President Biden will squarely blame former president Donald Trump for the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, and for continuing to propagate falsehoods and unrest over the past year, when he speaks on the one-year anniversary of the insurrection. https://t.co/TNix9J9EOm
We talked to several other Washingtonians about their experiences on Jan. 6 and how it's shaped them in the days, weeks, and months since.

@politico: U.S. Capitol Police Chief will testify before the Rules Committee for a Jan. 6 oversight hearing at 10 a.m. He will tell the committee how his department is implementing more than 100 recommendations for improvement…
Interesting for a group who so rarely speaks to the press: Capitol Police board is holding a press conference this afternoon, “to discuss the improvements made to secure the U.S. Capitol and protect our democratic process." (2:30 p.m., HVC-201) h/t @politico
