There’s a baby beak in the nest! Mama hummingbird is out getting food, baby keeps its beak pointed to the sky waiting. I’m surprised how big the beak for a newborn. How long till baby takes flight?

Mohit was waiting for me to QP a post showing how hard us photographers work to get the shots, so, here’s my contribution. It’s true. We put ourselves in some questionably dangerous situations; inclement weather, in front of unpredictable wildlife, standing in the road for that symmetrical photo, or freezing our toes off for the stars, only to push ourselves to stay out longer just to watch the sunrise. We always push ourselves for one more photo, and it’s always worth it. 📷

Day 5. Another calm day, not much activity and she was well protected from the rain. Can’t wait to see the baby chicks soon!

Day 4. She stayed close to the nest today, didn’t leave often, maybe her eggs are almost ready to hatch? She’s got a really long tongue!

Day 3. She is still building her nest, taking trips around the yard to collect little bits of bark. Sun rise at her back.

Day 2 of Nest Watch. Had an unwelcome visitor, gotta find a way to keep the hornet away from the eggs.

This will be fun. Found a hummingbird sitting on her eggs in the backyard, sunlight will be on her perfectly each the afternoon so I can capture. Love how she camouflaged the nest and even used some of the dog hair laying around in the yard
