@Jessassin @BattleNonSense Yeah. Twitter in decentralized / federated. If your server goes down, your account will go down with it. However exporting data (followers/followings) and importing it again is super easy in the worst case that the server actually goes down

@ChrisHanel Agreed on the external access however large companies could very well mass scan all messages for advertisement porpoises. I don't think that this is likely (though technically possible as well) for the smaller scale Mastodon instances.

@ChrisHanel Curious questions: What's so bad about the fractured communities? Because you can still interact with everyone across servers.
And regarding DMs: Is it so much worse then Twitter being able to read those? At least Mastodon is open about it
