Let me start with the story telling and the narration pattern 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The time switch between the past and present was smooth. No confusion at all.

First, let’s talk about the friend that stood in for his friend after his unexplained disappearance. That’s a great human being. Took responsibility and covered his friend’s wife even tho he didn’t have to… Those scenes made me teary. Kind acts are my weak point 🫶🏽🫶🏽

BAMBAM (Mobo), her calm demeanor worked perfectly for this role. When she gave that presentation at the fundraiser, water comot for my eyes. That is such a great way to see people and my take home from this movie is “GIVE PEOPLE GRACE”.. Do it with sense sha..

Oh my BOBBY (Kola), I am such a fan of his acting. His calmness is cute ☺️.. just a surface role but I will always hype my Bobby 🤭🤭🤭

Now to the STAR of the movie, PA JUDE (Mr Bisade), few scenes in, I knew he was Mobo’s dad but I was waiting for the gist to unfold cos I know Biodun Stephen stories are special.. The moment I heard “It was bread”, I fell on my knees in my husband’s house 😭😭😭😭😭.. Pa Jude is an exceptional actor and B.S uses him well.

This movie needs to be seen by everyone and screened everywhere (schools,police stations,churches,mosques…everywhere).. One stupid mistake by the force that is in place to protect us, made a man loss 30 years of his life, a wife loss her husband,care,attention,support and cover and a child loss her father’s love…

I understand that. We all have the right to protect our mental space.

But sometimes I wonder if, in our desire to remain in our soft, comfortable places, we are becoming afraid of difficult conversations.

The things we tell stories about are real. Abuse is real. Trauma is real. Grief is real. Betrayal is real.

And when someone watches This Is Us Now and says, “This happened to me too,” they suddenly know they are not alone.

When someone says, “I wish I had someone support me like this,” perhaps another person learns how to show up for someone going through it.

That is why I tell difficult stories.

Not to glorify pain. Not to traumatise people.

But to make people seen. To start conversations. To help us understand. To teach us how to support one another.

Teacher’s Boy can be triggering for the child who was never protected. Trending Lies can be triggering for someone who has lived through betrayal. This Is Us Now can be triggering for someone carrying trauma.

I believe there is room for the laughter, the romance, the fantasy and our beautiful little delulu spaces.

But there must also be room for truth.

Because real life is not always soft.

Sometimes we have to sit with the uncomfortable stories so that the people living them don't have to sit with them alone.

That is the work I do with BiodunStephenTV.

Tell stories that entertain us.

Tell stories that challenge us.

Tell stories that make us look at each other and say:

“I see you. You are not alone.”
