@tcw_blog1@VainGloryGooner Oh, I didn't realize you're Canadian. I'm up in Peterborough. I heard there was some smudging but that was before I came to the diocese. I also read that the Jesuits allowed smudging as a kind of incense, so it can be a Catholic thing in principle, not too sure though
@tcw_blog1@VainGloryGooner I'm fortunate in that my diocese is very solid. However, I would not attend sspx even as a last resort. I am very sympathetic to people who would, but I see it as no different than going to an EO liturgy
@tcw_blog1@VainGloryGooner For that reason I get worked up about this issue, because I see the sspx as wolves in sherps clothing. I'm very sympathetic to people who just love liturgy, but I see the sspx as wanting to lure the faithful out of the church
@tcw_blog1@VainGloryGooner I drive a similar distance to attend a diocesan TLM most of the time. My diocese has a lot of trad people in it, some of whom who I care deeply about were close to leaving the church due to sspx or adjacent propaganda
@tcw_blog1@VainGloryGooner As for the laity, if they insist on siding with the sspx, the excommunications obviously apply. This probably applies to most of their members. If there wre some who just attend thinking its a nice mass, they probably are still Catholics
@tcw_blog1@VainGloryGooner I'm sorry for provoking you, I understand you have attachments to the sspx, so this news is emotional. Still, your language is very unchristian so I suggest you delete your post
@tcw_blog1@VainGloryGooner No, its just that I don't yet have quite a rigorous enough understanding what it means to formally adhere to the sspx. It's still clear that anyone who willingly approaches illicit and therefore sacrilegious sacraments is incurring grave sin
@tcw_blog1@VainGloryGooner The clergy of the sspx are all formal schismatics and their sacraments are all illicit or invalid. I'm not interested in arguing whether the laity are excommunicated. If they commune with schismatics and seek illicit sacraments, what they do is the same as attending EO liturgies
